DRUMMOND, OK ? Virginia Buckminster Hill, 85, of Drummond, daughter of Norval and Alice Finkinbinder Buckminster, was born March 6, 1928, on the Buckminister farm, southeast of Lahoma, OK, and passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013.
She attended grade school at Spencer District 6D in Lahoma and graduated from Drummond High School. Virginia learned to play the ?Beer Barrel Polka? on her accordion at a young age; she thought she had the world by the tail when she mastered it.
On July 31, 1947, she married the love of her life, Chelsea E. Hill, and he passed away March 31, 1993. They had one son, Curtis W. Hill.
She thoroughly enjoyed being very active in the cattle and farming operation that her family pursued throughout the years, checking, doctoring and watching the cattle grow. Also, in the pioneer spirit, having a good hot meal packed and with her for the noon meal, as she was the truck driver during harvest.
Virginia was active in Drummond Congregational Church, Women?s Society, taught Sunday school classes for several years, served on the Garfield County Precinct Election Board for 40 years, was clerk with the auctioneers at Pat Masons, Enid Livestock Sale Barn and treasurer of Del Norte Cemetery since 1961. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Drummond. She was a physical therapist aide for Integris Bass Baptist and retired in 1996.
She is survived by her son, Curtis W. Hill and wife, Kolleen of Waukomis, OK; three grandchildren, Traci Hill Broomfield and husband, Gene, of Ames, OK, Tresa Hill Endres and husband, Landon, of Okarche, OK, and Cody Hill of Kingfisher, OK; six great-grandchildren, Kale and Malynn Broomfield, Callie Hill, Tyson Endres and Cody Endres, and Blake Endres; three sisters, Norvella Nelson of Carrier, OK, Evelyn Young of Vernal, Utah, Alice Dierksen and husband, Ronald, of Belle Plain, KS; two brothers, Charles Buckminster and wife, Nancy, and Clifford Buckminster and wife, Jean, all of Lahoma, OK
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister and one infant brother.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2013, in Ladusau-Evans Chapel. Pastor Ron Olson will officiate. Burial will follow in Del Norte Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Del Norte Cemetery, with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds.
