Rites Tuesday For Howard Atkins
Funeral services for Howard Atkins, 77, who died Saturday in a local hospital, will be at 2 PM Tuesday in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will be in the Del Norte Cemetery with graveside rites by the Enid I00F Lodge No. 31.
Atkins was born November 13, 1892, and came to Oklahoma from California, settling at Drummond in 1912.
He moved to Newkirk in 1915 and worked in the oil field, returning to Drummond in 1922 then moved to Enid in 1944. He remained in Enid except for a three – year period from 1965 to 1968, when he returned to Drummond.
Atkins was a member of the IOOF Lodge No. 31 of Enid. He had been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for 56 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred E. Of the home; a son Tom Howard Atkins, Houston, Texas, a daughter, Mrs. Emmit (Georgia) Edgar, Wellington, Kansas; four grandchildren, two half sisters, Mrs. Gobell (Nellie) Swart, Ft. Isbell, Texas, and Mrs. Mabel Jones, Enid.

Mildred E. Thorlton was born on June 10, 1888, in Box Butte, Nebraska, to Lovica Minerva Pierce, age 38, and John Henry Thorlton, age 50.
Mrs. Mildred E. Atkins Funeral Tuesday
Mrs. Mildred E. Atkins, 82, 1318 N. Washington, died Saturday afternoon in a local rest home. Her funeral rites will be at 10 AM Tuesday in the Chapel of the Brown funeral home.
Rev. James A. Underwood will officiate and burial will be in the Del Norte Cemetery.
Mrs. Adkins was born in Box Butte County, Nebraska, and came to Oklahoma with her parents when 17 years of age, the family settling in the Drummond community where she lived until her marriage to George H. Atkins on June 10, 1944.
They established a home in Enid where they had lived since except from 1965 until 1968, when they returned to Drummond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Atkins on April 25, 1970.
Survivors include a step son, Tom Howard Atkins of Houston, Texas; a step daughter, Mrs. Emmit (Georgia) Edgar, Wellington, Kansas; four step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Clyde Roll and Scotty Thorlton of Enid.
