The funeral service for Lois Wanana Powell, 88, will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007, at the Garriott Road Church of Christ. Ray Rose will officiate. Burial will be in Covington Cemetery. Arrangements are made by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Lois was born Dec. 6, 1818, in Dilworth, Okla., to Jacob Elmer Burns and Minnie Alice Duncan Burns and died May 6, 2007, in Enid. She grew up in the Garber-Covington oil field, where she moved with her mother and stepfather, Alan Potter. She attended the Sinclair Private School until she graduated and attended high school in Garber.
She married Albert Cleo Powell May 2, 1936, in Enid. They had five children: Darlene Brazell of Grand Lake, Sue Powell of Enid, Linda Goddard of Edmond, Wayne Powell of Jefferson, Texas, and Nancy Thompson of Covington.
They lived and raised their children in Covington and the oil field. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Covington, a member of the Covington Home and School Club and sang with the Garfield County Church Club. She was a member of the Day Star Church of Christ. She graduated from O.T. Autry school as an LPN and worked at Bass Baptist Hospital for 18 years, retiring in 1986.
She is survived by her five children, 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, one grandchild, three sisters, Hildred, Mildred and Waunita Burns, and two brothers, Dale Darrell and Alan Potter.
She was a devout Christian and loved to sing.
