Covington Cemetery


COVINGTON, OK - Funeral for Verla Mack, 95, of Covington, will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at St. John?s Lutheran Church, Covington. The Rev. Christopher Griffith will officiate.

Viewing will be before the service, 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., at the church. Interment will follow in Covington Cemetery, Covington.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lanman Funeral Home, Medford. Condolences may be made at lanmanmemorials.com.

Verla was born August 2, 1918, in Kellyville, OK, to Charley and Bessie (Atkins) Avery and passed from this life October 19, 2013, at Sterling House in Bethany, OK, where she had resided since July 2012.

She attended school in Kellyville, and the family moved to the Hayward-Lucien area in the 1930s.

She and Arthur Lee "Art" Mack were married October 1, 1938, in Enid and made their home in Covington.

She and Art enjoyed traveling. Verla loved to sew, make quilts, do arts and crafts, stained glass, and she did oils and watercolors too.

She enjoyed playing bingo, going to the senior center, fishing, flower and vegetable gardening, canning, cooking and going to Colorado to pick peaches. She was proficient in all she undertook.

Verla was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, sister and friend. She took care of her mother in her home for many years.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Verla is survived by one daughter, Janice Wise of Yukon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Janet Mack and Sammy and Diana Mack, all of Lucien; six grandsons, Bruce Mack of Lucien, Bryan Mack of Perry, Todd Mack of Dallas, TX, Chad Wise of Moore, Tony Mack of Newcastle, OK and Trey Mack of Edmond, OK; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Olive Avery of Perry; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, February 27, 1996; her parents; and five brothers, Edward, Estel, Glen, Freddie and Ralph Avery.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Tri-County Senior Citizens Center and sent to Lanman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 280, Medford, OK, 73759.
