Lois Beatrice Jones was born July 12, 1921, to Nellie and Charles Dougherty in Covington, Oklahoma. She passed away in Stockton, California, on March 29, 2018, at age 96. She was raised in Covington where she met the love of her life, Ed Jones. They were married in in Bristow, Oklahoma, on January 3, 1939. Their only child, a son, Donald, was born later that year. As a family, they moved to many, many towns in Oklahoma and Texas for three decades while Ed worked for the oil industry. In 1960, they settled down and made Hennessey, Oklahoma, their home. From 1974 to 2000, Lois owned and operated Lois' Fabrics in Hennessey. It would be no surprise for Lois to close the store for the afternoon, hanging a sign "Gone to the Horse Races." Lois was a devoted wife for fifty-six years, until Ed's passing in 1995.
Upon turning 80 years old, she decided to sell her store in 2000, when a nice young lady came into her store inquiring about setting up a quilting show in town. Lois saw this as an opportunity to retire once and for all. This gave her more time to host the ladies' bridge club at her home on 7th Street which she did for fifteen years. To be closer to her son, Don, and daughter-in-law, Jonney Sue, she moved to Stockton, California in 2016, where she lived in the Commons on Thornton in her own apartment. She enjoyed the Commons life, making new friends, playing card games and bingo, and, most important to her, boarding the shuttle to travel to Jackson Rancheria to play black-jack. She was a gifted artist through the many acrylic paintings for which she continued her painting at the Commons. Up until the end, her favorite pastime was going to the casino. When asked what she would like for Christmas, she said " I'd like to go to the casino". Her son (Don), daughter-in-law (Jonney Sue), granddaughter (Vicki) and her husband (Tony), and great-grandsons (Dylan and Drake) accompanied her for a Christmas celebration at Thunder Valley Casino in December, 2017.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, husband Ed, and her nephew Lyndell, of whom she was so fond.
She is survived by her brother, Bob Dougherty of San Francisco, California; her son, Donald Jones of Stockton, California; her nephew, Jeff Nicholson; two granddaughters, Vicki and Kathy; four great-grandsons, Joseph, Jason, Dylan, and Drake; and one great-great-grandson (Kaeson); and many friends especially her neighbors, Ruthann, Kris, Kendall and their kids.
The family would like to thank Asera Care and all of the staff at the Commons for their compassion and excellent care of Lois during her final days.
As per her request of a private service, she will be laid to rest in Covington, Oklahoma, with her husband, Ed, and many family members.
