ENID, Okla. — Funeral service for Jerry Hamlett, 50-year-old Covington resident, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Covington Gymnasium. The Rev. Tommy Donaldson will officiate. Burial will follow in Covington Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Jerry was born Aug. 24, 1963, to J.D. Hamlett and Mary Katherine (Campbell) Hamlett in Hobart, Okla., and died suddenly, Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
Jerry attended Sentinel schools and graduated from Cordell High school with the class of 1981. He then attended Southwestern University at Weatherford and then OPSU Panhandle State.
He started working in the oil fields and engineering firms. He also coached football and basketball for various schools. He was an assistant coach for the Oklahoma Crude. For the last two years, he was a safety director for Dan Darling Drilling.
He was president of the Covington Sports Booster Club and coached little league football, basketball and baseball. He loved to hunt with his dogs, fish, golf and in his younger years, rodeo.
He is survived by his wife, Traci of the home; five children, Kendall Six of Burns Flat, Tyler Hamlett of the home, Hunter Carl of the home, Weston Carl of the home and Blake Hamlett, also of the home; his parents, J.D. Hamlett and wife Hilma; his mother, Mary Katherine; two brothers, Brian and Scotty Hamlett; one sister, Kristina Thomas of Weatherford; mother and father-in-law, Linda and Earl Casteel of Hennessey; special friend, Alice; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Alma Hamlett and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Campbell.
Memorials may be made through 1st Bank and Trust of Covington to the Hamlett Children’s Education Fund.
