Leon Perry Bowling, 92, formerly of Covington, Okla., was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Covington, Okla., to Perry Leon and Sarah Alice (Hopson) Bowling and died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, in Henryetta, Okla.
He married Leona Anne Decker Aug. 4, 1940, at Pleasant Hill Church in Covington, Okla. She preceded him in death on May 29, 1998.
Leon served his country in the United States Army from July 20, 1944, to Aug. 19, 1946. He worked for Cherokee Pipe Line for over 30 years before retiring. He was a four-time national winner in the Senior Olympics and also was a member of the Moose Lodge in Tulsa, Okla. He started the Sure Ringers Horseshoes Club. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling with his family and John Wayne was his hero.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Covington. Dr. Don Rogers will officiate. Interment will be in Covington Cemetery. Service is under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, Perry
Leon is survived by three sons, Walter Perry Bowling and wife Delores of Glenpool, Okla., Frost McClain Bowling and Timothy Lee Bowling, both of Sapulpa, Okla.; daughters, Nancy Gibney and husband Dale, and Margaret Butler, all of Sapulpa, Okla.; seven grandchildren, David Bowling and wife Shea of Glenpool, Okla., Kristin Bowling of Tulsa, Okla., Aaron Gibney and wife Jennifer of Sapulpa, Okla., Wendy Alley and husband Jeremy of Talkeetna, Alaska, Wade Butler and wife Aleah of Washington D.C., Will Butler of Tulsa, Okla., and Wyatt Butler of Sapulpa, Okla.; 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Leroy Bowling and wife Barbara of Covington, Okla., and Lloyd Bowling of Coyle, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Anne Bowling; parents, Perry Leon and Sarah Alice Bowling; five sisters; and two brothers
