Cecil R. Ross
July 13, 1923 - July 17, 2010
The funeral service for Cecil R. Ross, 87, of Covington, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010, in Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Tommy Donaldson officiating. Burial will be in Covington Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church or Hospice Circle of Love with the funeral home custodian of the funds.
Cecil was born July 13, 1923, in Marshall, Okla., to Vinton Ray and Carola Mae Shaffer Ross. He graduated from Marshall High School and then attended Enid Business College.
Cecil and Jo Ann Potter were married Oct. 3, 1944, in Enid. Two days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Cecil enlisted in the Army Air Corp Dec. 9 in Enid. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant Dec. 8, 1945, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Cecil returned and they lived in Marshall, Douglas and then Covington, where he was a wheat farmer the rest of his life. He was the bookkeeper at Covington Livestock Auction and was an avid bird watcher in his later years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clyde Alvin Ross and James Lewis Ross.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann of the home; two sons, James Ray and wife Diana of Sand Springs and David Lee and wife Linda of Broken Arrow; daughter, Dee Ann Davis and husband Dwayne of Sand Springs; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carolyn Ruth Newell of Marshall.
