The funeral for Irene Louise Semrad, 86-year-old Enid resident will be 12 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Kevin Ratterman celebrant and Rev. Ernest Flusche concelebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home.
She was born east of Bison, Oklahoma to Rommy and Lula (Hixon) Davis and died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at Highland Park Manor Nursing Center. She attended schools around Bison, Oklahoma.
On Dec. 23, 1937, she married Wencesles Leo Semrad of Marshall, Oklahoma at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bison, OK with Father H.B. Mandelary officiating. They lived at Marshall until April 1939, when they moved north of Bison to grandpa Semrad’s farm. They then moved to Enid in August 1947 where they farmed and had a dairy. They became members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where she was still a member at the time of her death. Her hobbies were gardening, sewing, crocheting and dancing. She and her husband traveled 19 years to various dance festivals until his death. She and her husband became members of the No. 1 Oklahoma Polka Club in February 1978, having remained active in the club holding various offices. She was also a member of Midwestern Polka Club in Wichita, KS.
Irene is survived by four daughters, Rosalie Houtz and her husband Jack of Inola, OK, Barbara Wilson and her husband Larry of Enid, OK, Ilene Wade and her husband Scott of Penscola, FL, Wilma Jean Holt and her husband Darrel of Garber, OK; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three-great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, one sister, one son-in-law, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
