The funeral service for Ada J. Schmitz, 93-year-old Covington resident, will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Covington. Pastor Kenneth Wade will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Enid. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Ada was born Nov. 12, 1916, in Mountain View, Okla., to John Hodges and Maud E. (Smith) Hodges and passed away Monday, April 26, 2010, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. She attended Hayward schools, graduating with the class of 1932.
On November 11, 1936, she married Theodore J. Schmitz. The couple made their home in Covington. As Theodore worked in the oil field, Ada traveled with him in those early years. They later farmed at Covington. She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Covington East Side Extension Group and a charter board member of Tri County Senior Citizens. She was a full-time homemaker, an excellent seamstress who made clothing for the entire community.
She is survived by her daughter, Arba Jo Pope and husband Gerald of Covington; one grandson, Theodore Herbert Pope and wife Manuela of Covington; two granddaughters, Jeri Delyn Lamerton and husband John, and Amy Denise Allen and husband J.D., all of Perry, Okla.; eight great-grandchildren, Justin, Christine, Cherokee, Meya Jo, Ashlyn, Kaytlyn, Bryce and Aubrey; three great-great-grandchildren, Ryan, Camdan and Braden; two sisters, Olive Hixon of Guthrie, Okla., and Ida Guthrie of Nowata, Okla. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters.
