August 18, 1931 - January 30, 2013

ENID, Okla. - Howard Ross Hunter, 81, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at his home in Edmond, Okla.

He was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Marlow, Okla., to Lee and Eula Hunter. He grew up in Lawton, Okla., and attended Lawton High School, graduating in 1949.

Howard served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan for two years.

Following his military service, Howard completed his education and graduated in 1957 from Central State College.

While in college, Howard was instrumental in the chapter development of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

In 1958, Howard married Alma L. Roso at St. James's Catholic Church in Oklahoma City on April 15. They were married 55 years, and their love was an example for many.

Howard began his career with the United States Government, Civil Service Administration, at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base, Clinton, Okla., and Offutt Air Force Base-Strategic Air Command, Omaha, Neb.

In 1968, Howard transferred to Vance AFB, Enid, Okla., as the administrative contracting officer, retiring in 1985.

Howard was an active member of St. Gregory Catholic Church and gave his time and talent to Our Daily Bread, Boy Scouts of America and Little League.

Howard and Alma traveled the world during their retirement.

Howard is survived by his loving wife, Alma, and two sisters, Sherry Hunter, Stephenville, Texas, Sandy and husband John Lair, Cleveland, Okla., and many nieces and nephews. In addition, Howard and Alma have three children, Sherry Hutchison and husband James, Edmond, Okla., Allen Hunter and wife Andrea, Fairway, Kan., Patti Baldridge and husband Mike, Sand Springs, Okla., and his five grandchildren, Chris and Paige Hutchison, Caroline Hunter, Mandy and Jill Baldridge.

A memorial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond, Okla.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Howard's honor to: Our Daily Bread, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 616 W. Randolph, Enid, Okla.
