Funeral service for Ruth Helberg, 89, of Enid, Okla., will be 11 a.m. today, Feb. 17, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Breckinridge, with the Rev. Travis Orr officiating. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.
Ruth was born May 13, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., to Henry and Rosa (Herth) Schwab and passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, in Enid.
Ruth grew up west of Enid and was raised by her grandparents, Jacob and Katrina Herth. She graduated from Lahoma High School and attended Enid Business College.
She worked at CNB until her marriage to Wilbert Louis Helberg on Oct. 27, 1946, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They moved to Breckinridge, where they lived and farmed.
Ruth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Priscilla Society (LWML), and enjoyed sewing quilts at the church. In 2005, Ruth and Wilbert moved to Enid.
Ruth is survived by one son, Paul Helberg and wife Betty of Malvern, Ark.; three daughters, Bernita Helberg of San Antonio, Texas, Roberta Helberg of Oklahoma City, and Cindy Pekrul and husband Con of Lahoma; five grandchildren, Scott and Lorri Helberg, John and Amanda Helberg, Becky and Anthony Watts, Valerie and Roy Arnold, and Rachel and Johnny Long; four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Hailey, John Paul Helberg and Landri Ruth Arnold; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Calvin and Emma Arnold; two brothers, Ralph and Rosalie Mitten Jr. and Wayne and Suzie Mitten, all of Enid; three sisters, Dorothy Coppock of Cleo Springs, Kathy Austin and Lovella Fisher, both of Enid; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert on Feb. 5, 2006; one daughter, Joyce Marie Helberg; sister, Patricia McMahan; and brother, George Schwab.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to The Lutheran Hour.
