ENID, OK - Mass of Christian Burial for Emil F. Simunek, 94-year-old Enid resident, will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 12, 2013, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bison. The Rev. Edward Menasco will officiate. Burial will follow in Bison Cemetery under direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Recitation of the rosary will be Sunday evening at 7 in Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Tony Crispo will lead.
Emil was born December 8, 1918, in Bison to Frank and Mollie (Hladik) Simunek and died Thursday, August 8, 2013, in Greenbrier Nursing Home.
He attended Catholic school in Bison. On October 10, 1940, he married Emma Navratil, and the couple made their home on a farm northeast of Bison, where they farmed and raised cattle.
Later in life, Emil decided to go into carpentry work. He built homes in the Bison, Hennessey and Dover areas. Emil was a board member of Bison Cemetery Association. He also played in the Tom Toborsky dance band. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bison.
He is survived by his son, Gerald Simunek, along with Barbara Jolley, of Enid; his daughter, Jeannette Fletcher, and husband David, also of Enid; four grandchildren, Amy Harmon, Becky Copello, Nick Fletcher and Joe Fletcher; and two step grandchildren, Lydia Sholing and Adam Jolley; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Emma in 2005 and an infant brother.
