Marilyn Jones (Morris) Woods

Marilyn Jones (Morris) Woods
July 09, 1930 ~ August 04, 2019

Marilyn Jones Morris Woods entered into eternal life on August 4, 2019, in Dallas, Texas. She was born at home on July 9, 1930, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, to Perry Jones Morris and Ora Beryl Howe Morris. Her older sisters were Helen Louise and Margaret Ann. She grew up in the Shattuck Christian Church and attended Shattuck schools. In high school she served as Class Secretary, cheerleader, and Drum Major. She graduated in 1948 as Salutatorian of her class. She then attended Oklahoma A & M.

On December 25, 1948, Marilyn and Anson Trent Woods were joined in holy matrimony at her home. They lived, first, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where their daughter, Pamela Sue, and their son, Robert Trent, were born. Later they moved to Rangely, Colorado; Milan, Italy; Dallas, Texas, and Elk City, Idaho, where they owned and operated the Elk City General Store for many years.

Wherever she lived, Marilyn was involved with her church and community, took pride in her home, and was active in the Republican Party and elections. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and playing bridge. She played the piano until the end of her life. She had a wide group of friends, whom she never forgot. Despite growing up during the Depression and World War II, she always said that her childhood in Shattuck “was so much fun.”

After her husband passed away in 2018, she moved to Dallas to live near her daughter. She is survived by her children Pam (David) Meyercord and Bob (Nickki) Woods; sister-in-law Carolyn Riffel, grandchildren Rebecca (Rob) Bruant, Susan Meyercord, Martha (Aaron) Mattox, Lucas (Ashley) Woods, Lauren Woods, Heidi Gillespie, Riann Grigsby, and Rob (Day) Swearingen; and her eighteen great-grandchildren. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Shattuck Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Catesby United Methodist Church and the Shattuck Senior Center.
