WOODWARD - Funeral services for Judge Harry Madison Welsh, 91, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the First Assembly of God Church at Woodward.

The Rev. William R. Eccles will officiate and interment will be in the Shattuck Memorial Cemetery, under direction of the Good Samaritan Funeral Service in Woodward.

Judge Welsh was born April 27, 1882, in Versailles, Ohio, and moved with his parents two years later to Missouri. In 1902 they came to Oklahoma, homesteading north of Woodward, in what is now a portion of Harper County.

Welsh began his career in public office, serving as a trustee, assessor and four years as county commissioner for Harper County. Before statehood, he was elected constable and deputy sheriff in that county. In 1921, he was appointed undersheriff under the late Hank Bowers. On Aug 23, 1929, he married Ruby Jane Bacon in Guthrie and they made their home in Shattuck where he served seven years as city marshall.

Welsh also served as court baliff under Judge F.B.H. Spellman. He served on Woodward Police force eight years, as municipal judge, and 12 years as justice of the peace. He retired when that office was abolished. He also owned a service station.

His wife preceded him in death in October, 1973. Welsh died Tuesday in a Woodward hospital. Survivors are his stepson, Leroy Bacon of Grand Junction, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Ida McCubbin of the home and Gem Welsh of Woodward.
