Chuck Irwin, 86 year old, Woodward resident, passed away October 10, 2025 in Oklahoma City. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, October 22, 2025 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Shattuck Memorial Cemetery.
Adrian "Chuck" Dean Irwin was born May 11, 1939 in Grady County near Ninnekah, Oklahoma. He grew up with his parents Okland and Anna Irwin along with his siblings Bobby, Jack, Carl, Sonja, and Neta. Chuck had grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins he spent many hours with. Chuck was a storyteller and loved telling about his childhood on the family farms and playing on the Washita River. Chuck found his way into the oilfield as a teenager alongside his dad, brother, and uncles and he made this his career for over forty years, working in Texas and Oklahoma.
Chuck became a father early on in his life. He was blessed with a son, Gayland Irwin. Several years later Chuck married Pauline and they were blessed with Jerry Keith and Lori Ann. Chuck continued working in the oilfield and spending time with family and friends. Later on Chuck did remarry again in the late 60's to Barbara Longhofer Hagen who had two of her own children, Lianne and Michael Brian who were age three and five. Chuck now was a father to five children. He and Barbara lived in Shattuck, Oklahoma, and Anaheim, California, where he was in the trucking business with his sister Bobby and brother-in-law Kenny Stovall.
Chuck loved trucking and hauling goods all over the country and he told great stories about his and Barbara's adventures in California. In 1971, together they had a daughter, Denise Renee and this completed their family with six children. Together Chuck and Barbara worked, camped, traveled, farmed, and raised quarter horses. Chuck loved farming, planting feed and wheat and driving the tractors. This was his passion until he became a grandpa and their world changed and the grandkids became his whole world. Chuck was patient and kind and gentle with the grandkids and loved them fiercely. He was so proud of them. Chuck ended his career working for USPCI/Laidlaw where he worked in Waste Water Treatment. Chuck met several great friends Rob, Joel, Keith, Chris, and many others.
Chuck was adventurous in his younger years and not afraid to speak his mind and he was even known to fight a little. Chuck lost his son Jerry Keith and his wife of over 40 years, Barbara, this was a very hard time in his life, but his friends and family and grandchildren helped him survive and he pushed on. He went to ball games, helped haul horses to rodeos, he sat on the front porch drinking coffee in the morning and sat on the porch in the evening talking to family about their day at work and school.
When Chuck got sick in 2024 he met his battle head on, no holds barred. As one of his nephew's said, "he was a force to be reckoned with". He stayed positive and fought his battle to the end. Chuck touched everyone around him with his gentle kindness and sincerity. He made the world a better place with his big heart. He set the bar high on how to be a good man, Dad/Grandpa/Brother/Friend. You will be greatly missed each and every day.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, OK and Anna Irwin, his brothers Reese Irwin and Carl Irwin; his sister Barbara Stovall; his son Jerry Keith Irwin; his wife Barbara Irwin; and his son-in-law Mark Dixon.
He is survived by his sons Gayland Irwin and wife Cindy of Borger, Texas, Michael Hagen and wife April of Woodward; daughters Lori Untalan and husband Greg of Iowa Park, Texas, Lianne Covalt of Shattuck, and Denise Dixon of Woodward; brother Jack Irwin and wife Sue of Mutual; sisters Sonya Peach of Mooreland and Neta Irwin of Oklahoma City; 15 grandchildren and 20+ great grandchildren and growing.
