Jake was the 5th of 9 children born to German/Russian immigrant parents Gottfried and Anna (Sturtz) Ehrlich . He lived in the Shattuck area most of his life and worked 39 years with Ingle Brothers' Broomcorn, Grain and Supply Co.; then as a carpenter with Becker Construction and with Schultz's Hardware Store.

He married Ruth Meier 20 May 1929. During the first years of their marriage, Jake and Ruth and their children lived on a farm southwest of Shattuck. In the early 1950's, the family moved into town. Jake enjoyed tinkering in his shop, fixing things around the home, and caring for his yard and garden. He loved to fish and found special joy in fishing with his grandchildren. Jake was an active member of St. Paul Congregational Church where he taught and held many positions.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; daughters: Vera Riffel, Velda Harris, Karen Richardson; sons Donald and Nelson. He was preceded in death by son Roy Lee and grandson, James Michael.

Services were held July 12, in the United Methodist Church with Rev. Nelson Chamberlain of St. Paul's and Rev. Floyd Thiessen of St. John's in Follett officiating. Burial in the Shattuck Memorial Cemetery aka I.O.O.F Lodge #303 Cemetery, Sec. 28 Twp 21 R25, located on the south side of Shattuck, Ok along Hwy 283.
