DALE LEE WOODS

October 25, 1941 - April 14, 2018

Dale L. Woods, 76 year old Gage resident, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018 in Oklahoma City surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with his son-in-law, Chris Ames officiating. Burial will follow in the Gage Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Billings Funeral Home.

Dale was born about 2 months premature at home near Arnett, OK on October 25, 1941 to Nelson Lynn and Mary Hardy Woods. Dale attended Arnett High School and graduated in 1960. Dale was visually impaired and his teachers would often have some of the students help him with his tests and school work. If someone could read the problems to him, Dale could give the answers. Dale never let his disability slow him down. He helped on the family farm and showed cattle winning 1st place with his heifer in 1956. After graduation Dale bought 80 acres near his parents home north of Arnett and began operating his own dairy farm. In 1967 he rode his motorcycle to a farm southeast of Gage to meet a young lady who he was told was single. The story was told that he interrupted a couple of girls fishing when he rode up. In 1968 Dale married this young lady, Ola Fay Porter. They lived a short time on the farm near Arnett before they bought a farm near Olas mom southeast of Gage. Dale loved animals and working outside. He and Ola were a team working side by side. Dale would tell the story that he was told to stay out of the garden after he tilled up good plants instead of the weeds. Dale was a hard working man, waking up early to milk the cows then taking care of all the needs of the farm before milking again in the evening.

Dale and Ola had two children, Doris Ann and Keith Dale. He loved his family dearly. He enjoyed playing UNO, Marbles, Rook, Pitch or any game. Even though he may have had difficulty seeing the cards or marbles that didnt stop him. Sometimes we would laugh until we cried playing games with Dale. If there was a water fight or a pillow fight, Dale either started it or was in the middle of the fight. He enjoyed going to family gatherings where he could eat and play pitch with cousins. Family vacations were wonderful times. Often these vacations were taken with nieces and nephews or other family members. There was always an adventure when Dale was along. Dales grandkids have great memories of vacations with him and Grandma Ola. After Dale sold his dairy, he couldnt stay away from the dairy barn and worked on the Community Dairy Farm in Gage with his Uncle Ellis and Tom. Dale continued to have a small herd of cattle until his death. He was so proud of the last two calves that were born just weeks before he passed away.

Dale was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Woodward. He enjoyed going to church and even though he lived 30 miles away, he rarely missed a service. He believed in the power of prayer and wasnt afraid to pray for someone in need.

Dale is survived by his daughter, Doris Ames and husband Chris; son, Keith Woods and wife Melba; four grandchildren, Bianca Woods and fiance JD Hill of Oklahoma City; Jonathan Woods of Denver, CO., Jeffrey Ames and Zachary Ames of Woodward; sister, Mary Jane Mitchell of Canon City, CO., brothers, Roy Woods and wife Colette of Enid, OK and Grover Woods and wife Norvella of Tulsa, OK., many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ola Fay, parents Nelson and Mary Woods, sister Perneta Woods, brother Lynn Woods and brother-in-law Doyle Mitchell.
