Memorial service for Ray W. Schoonover, 75, of Enid, will be 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Enid, with Rev. Jerry Holt officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Fargo Cemetery in Fargo, Okla. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at the funeral home.
Ray was born May 4, 1935, in Sterling, Kan., to William David and Juanita Gail (Wright) Schoonover and died Friday, April 22, 2011, in Enid.
Ray attended school in Ness City, Dodge City and Spearville, Kan., and returned to Ness City, Kan., and graduated high school.
He entered the United States Air Force and served three years active duty and four years inactive duty.
On Aug. 18, 1964, he married Rita Pittman. He began preparing tax returns while in the military and continued his income tax practice for 40 years.
Ray served as National Big Hat President with National American Business Club (AMBUCS), State President of Oklahoma Society of Accountants (OSA), member in good standing with National Society of Accountants (NSA), Enid Elks Lodge, Garfield County Red Cross, and Society for the Preservation of Barbershop Quartets in America-Enid Chapter. Ray attended Liberty Southern Baptist Church.
Ray is survived by his wife, Rita Schoonover of the home; daughters, Toni Cornejo of Goddard, Kan., and Sandra Rene Hall of Carrier, Okla.; grandchildren, Tiffany Wilkey, Ashley Glover, Shelby Hall and Riley Hall; great-grandchildren, Cole, Cade and Carli Wilkey; sister, Joan Danford of Hutchinson, Kan.; and many friends who will miss him greatly.
He was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, Frankie and Leroy; and two sisters, Betty Keldermand and Dorthy Turner.

A celebration of Life for Rita Joan (Pittman) Schoonover, 80, of Enid will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home in Enid, with Rev. Vernon Lee officiating. Rita was born March 19, 1943, in Gage, OK, to Art Pittman and Mary Alice (Wiesner) Pittman, and passed from this earth on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in Enid.
Rita attended school in Gage, Oklahoma. She went on to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma, graduating with her teaching degree. On August 18, 1964, she married Ray W. Schoonover. They moved to Enid in 1964. Rita & Ray were married for 47 years. Rita was a school teacher at Lahoma & then taught at Pioneer-Pleasant Vale Elementary in Enid for many years. She was a children’s Sunday School teacher and long-standing member at Liberty Southern Baptist Church in Enid. She enjoyed spending time with her family, taking care of her grandchildren, traveling with them and her husband Ray, and attending church almost every Sunday to sing in the choir.
Rita is survived by her daughter Sandra Hall (Jeff), Grandchildren Shelby Stotts (Heath), Riley Hall (Andersen); Step-daughter Toni Shroyer, Grandchildren Tiffany Wilkey (Scott), Ashley Glover (David); Great Grandchildren Decklan, Sloane & Sutton Stotts, Cole, Cade & Carlie Wilkey, Kellam & Harris Glover; Sister Arlene Britton and Brother Bill Pittman; and many other family members and friends who will miss her greatly.
She was preceded by her parents, husband Ray and brother Donnie Pittman.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Liberty Southern Baptist Church, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Pioneer-Pleasant Vale Elementary.
