Anita Rabe, 92 year old Fargo resident, died Thursday, February 6, 2020 in Shattuck. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Fargo United Methodist Church with Reverend Jeff Ralston officiating. Burial will follow in the Fargo Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Anita Susanne Nanny (Killlian) Rabe was born February 2, 1928 in Offenbach, Germany, the youngest daughter of Alfred and Ida (Hartung) Killian. After her schooling she studied tailoring and dress making in Offenbach and Frankfurt Germany. In 1946, she met the love of her life, Sergeant Wilber Rabe and they were united in marriage on September 8, 1946 in Mulheim Germany. Their son, Ralph, was born in Germany. When Wilbers tour overseas ended, they departed Germany by plane and landed at Kennedy Airport on November 25, 1948. After Wilbers discharge from the Army, they arrived by train in Woodward, Oklahoma in the first part of December. They made their home in Woodward until they purchased a garage in Fargo (Wilbers Garage) and worked side by side at the garage and also farming and raising cattle.
She was a member of the Farmer Sunshine Club and a member of Ellis County EMT Service for twenty years and later she was a first responder. Wilber and Anita were active members of their community. They participated in Ellis County CB Club, Fargo Chamber of Commerce, Fargo Senior Citizens. They were members of the Fargo United Methodist Church where Anita was part of the Lady Quilters, and also a member of the Red Hat Club.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Maya Knopp, the love of her life Wilber in 2003, daughter-in-law Teresa, stepson Larry, sisters-in- law and brothers-in-law: Minnie Schoenhals and husband Bill, George Rabe, Walter, Herman, John, Sophie and Leonard Romine.
She is survived by her son Ralph Rabe; grandchildren, Christie and Clay File, Ronnie Rabe all of Fargo, step-granddaughter, Catherine Bass of Perryton, Texas; great-grandchildren, Cole and Cami File of Fargo, step-great grandchildren, Drew Landers of Perryton, AIF Brent Landers of Travis AFB, California; daughters-in- law: Ellen Rabe of Perryton, Texas and Dianna Rabe of Fargo; God daughter, Janet Fitz; other relatives and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fargo United Methodist Church Quilters, with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
