Joyce Olene Hunter Wayland was born July 5, 1942 in Woodward, OK and passed from this life on Monday, March 20, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid, OK at the age of 74 years. Joyce was born to Cecil Linden and Hilda Marie Myers Hunter and was raised on a farm in eastern Ellis County with her sister and two brothers. Joyce graduated from Vici Schools in 1960 where she was active in softball and basketball. After graduation, Joyce moved to Abilene, TX and attended beauty college. On September 23, 1961, Joyce married the love of her life, Earl Dean, at her parents’ home. To this union of 53 years, three sons were born, Jimmie Duane, Jeffery Dale, and Joe Don. Earl and Joyce made their home in Grand, OK until 1963 when they moved 11 miles south of Arnett. They remained on this homestead until 1995 when they moved to town.
Joyce was a loving wife to Earl and spent her life taking care of him, her children, and grandchildren. She spent a lot of time helping the family with farming, harvest and hauling lots of hay. She also made a hand with the cattle work, both on horseback and in the feed pickup. She spent much of her life by Earl’s side, helping with everything she could. They attended horse sales together and she helped with horses and colts. She enjoyed going to ball games and watching her children and grandchildren participate in many school activities. Joyce was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making Sunday dinners for her family. Joyce also enjoyed attending the Arnett Church of Christ where she was a member and was baptized as an adult.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Earl Dean, and her brothers-in-law Charles Lantelme and Roy Ball, and daughter-in-law, Amy Wayland.
Joyce is survived by her three sons, Jimmie and wife, Rhonda; Jeff; and Joe and wife, Sally, all of Arnett; sister, Arnetta Ball of Woodward; two brothers, Darrell Hunter and wife, Shirley of Vici and Elvin Hunter and wife, Ann of Woodward; six grandchildren, Lauren, Jacob, Julie, Jordan, Peyton, and Sara, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
