Brenda Kay (Word) Giffin

Brenda Kay (Word) Giffin
August 30, 1954 ~ February 18, 2020

Brenda Kay was born in Shattuck, OK on August 30, 1954 to Charles Vernon and Audine Ann Word. She grew up on the Word’s U7 Ranch in a converted one room schoolhouse with her sister, Sherry, and four brothers, Millard, Brent, Brad, and Bruce. She spent her young life learning to work hard and having many fun adventures with her siblings and friends. It was during these years that she developed her love for animals, cooking, and crafting. In high school, she was honored to serve as both FFA Sweetheart and Miss Arnett.

She graduated from Arnett High School in 1972 and began new adventures at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Many of her college friends were sure she was wealthy because she always had the best wardrobe. Little did they know that she was a very accomplished seamstress and designed many of her fabulous outfits.

During her college years her heart was stolen by George E. Giffin III and on May 18, 1974 they were married. This new adventure would take her all over the USA as an Army wife. They had two children together, Tina Lee and Corey Wade. Because of George’s military career the family had many exciting adventures in places like Alaska, Maryland, Alabama, Kansas, and Virginia. In 1995 George retired from the Army as a Lt. Col. and the family moved to Sapulpa, OK where she resided until her death. Brenda attended Stillwater Bible Church with Tina and her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, scrapbooking, gardening, antiquing, and rescuing animals, but she especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandkids.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Audine Word and brother Millard Word.

She is survived by her husband of the home Lt. Col. George Giffin III; daughter Tina Wiscombe and husband Ron of Perkins, OK; son Corey Giffin of Kiefer, OK; three grandchildren Ashlyn Giffin, Hayden Giffin, and Elora Wiscombe; three brothers Brent Word and wife Lanie, Brad Word and wife Brenda, and Bruce Word and wife Starla all of Arnett, OK; one sister Sherry Bales of Arnett, OK, many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
