Georgia Marie (Mackey) Black

Georgia Marie Mackey Black was born May 29th 1928. Her parents George and Della welcomed this tiny little infant, with a shoe box for her crib. The story was told of her grandmother and her aunts keeping her warm and taking care of her around the clock until she became a vital, healthy little baby girl.

She grew up in the Camargo area where she graduated from high school. As a young girl she went to work in Woodward. After her parents moved to Arnett she met Pete Black who would later become her husband. Georgia and Pete moved to Amarillo where they raised their three children Neal Jay, Debra Lyn, and Jim Don. Soon Georgia and Pete would begin their travels across the US. Their job took them to Livermore, California, Dayton, Ohio, Mississippi, back to Amarillo and eventually to Kansas City. They lived in all of these places plus Raton, N.M., Freedom, Gage, Enid, Shattuck, Arnett and Woodward, Oklahoma.

Pete and Georgia were married December 1, 1949 in Enid, Oklahoma. They lived a life of devotion to one another. This ‘perfect’ partnership withstood the death of their three children. Georgia was preceded in death by her sister Connie, her brother John and her parents Della and George.

Georgia was baptized as a young girl while living in Camargo. Throughout their travels Georgia and Pete had worshipped in many different churches. Their final affiliation was with the United Methodist Church in Arnett. While there they were instrumental in the construction of the beautiful stained-glass windows, where they dedicated their portion to the memory of their children Neal, Debbie and Jim.

Georgia was chosen to be the foster mother to many different children while they lived in Texas, California and Mississippi.

Georgia leaves her husband Lowell Waide Black, her grandson Paul Ebenkamp, her granddaughter Alexandra Ebenkamp, her brother Wayne Mackey and his wife Judy, her nieces and nephews, many special cousins, her sister-in-law Wanda Hanan, her son-in-law Mick Ebenkamp and his wife Kayla, many friends and extended family members.

She would have wanted to thank all of her friends who lived and worked at Providence Place in Woodward, where she lived her final years.
