Dennis Alden Turner, better known as Turkey Turner, was the son of Manley John and Selma Lois (Kothman) Turner. He was born at the homeplace four and a half miles southeast of Vici, OK. on July 12, 1952 and passed from this life at his home on October 22, 2019 at the age of 67. Dennis grew up in the Vici community. He acquired the nickname “Turkey” while attending school in the Vici Public School system where he graduated with the class of 1971. Dennis worked with his Dad in the family masonry business during his school years and following graduation. He began a career in the oilfield for several years advancing to the position of tool pusher while employed by Rine Drilling Company. He also operated a tree cutting service for a time and was a truck driver until failing health forced his retirement.
Dennis was married to LaDonna Miller and their home was blessed with two children, Philisha and Duston. Over the years Dennis lived in Weatherford, OK. and Enid, OK. before returning to Vici. He married Cheryl (Schuermann) Wright in Woodward, OK. on March 3, 2003 and they made their home southwest of Vici. OK. Dennis enjoyed hunting and was an avid fan of NASCAR races, He will be remembered for his contagious laugh, incredible strength, his big heart and his love of pulling jokes on his friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Manley and Selma Turner, two brothers, Dewane and Paul Turner, three sisters, Ione Castor, Vera Eppling and Colleen Easter and other loved ones. His memory is cherished by his loving wife, Cheryl of Vici, OK., his children Philisha of Oklahoma City, OK. and Duston of Mustang, OK. His stepson, Kelly Hill of Enid, OK. and step daughter, Pebbles Jones and husband Glenn of Brodhead, KY. his brother, Gary Turner and wife Carole of Vici, OK. and sisters, Rhonda Reid and husband Stan of Gage, OK. and Linda Melson of Wooster, OH. Eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
