Charline R. (Rushing) Hughen

Charline R. (Rushing) Hughen, was the third of five daughters born to Rev. John Gilbert and Arvie May (Miller) Rushing. She was born on October 1, 1930 at Memphis, TN. She passed from this life at the age of 89 on January 19, 2020 at Vici, OK. Charline attended grade school at Memphis, TN. and high school at Sylacauga, AL. graduating with the class of 1947. She furthered her education by attending Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, TN. before marriage. After her older children were grown, she attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. and Central State University in Edmond, OK. where she received a master’s degree in clinical psychology. She was an Honor Society student in high school and college.

On April 26, 1950 at Shreveport, LA., Charline was united in marriage to Otis Leon Hughen. They established their first home in Shreveport where two of their three children, Linda K. and Otis Leon, Jr., blessed their home. Jodi Lynn was later born in Oklahoma City, OK. Over the years the family lived in Shreveport, LA, Kingsport, TN, Norman, OK. and Midwest City, OK. Otis and Charline lived in China Lake, CA briefly in 1975 on TDY for Tinker AFB before returning to Midwest City, OK. Upon retiring, they made their final move to Vici, OK.

Along with her duties of wife and mother, Charline was employed as a lead medical secretary at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, LA for eight years. She later worked in the secretarial pool at Tinker AFB. After leaving Tinker, she opened her own bookstore in Del City, OK. She enjoyed traveling and her special interests included making jewelry, rock collecting and books. She was baptized at the age of 14 and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John Gilbert and Arvie May Rushing, her husband, Otis Leon Hughen, three sisters, Dora Moseley, Sylvia Crouch and Roberta Ganzer and a granddaughter, Jennifer Hughen.

Her memory is cherished by her children, Linda K. French of Vici, OK., Otis Hughen, Jr. and wife Pamela of Vici, OK. and Jodi Hughen-Green and husband Chris of Tuttle, OK., her sister, Montine Webb of Sylacauga, AL., eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, one g-great grandchild and other relatives and friends.
