Woodward, Okla. — Carolyn D. Hartzell, 67 year old former Woodward resident, died Thursday August 25, 2011 at the home of her son in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. in the Sunnyside Cemetery, east of Vici, Oklahoma. The Reverend John Gerlek will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home of Woodward.
Carolyn Diane Hartzell was born on January 22, 1944 at Stockton, California to Roy and Velma Eudora (Peard) McCleery. The McCleery family moved to Oklahoma in May of 1945 and Carolyn grew up in the Harmon - Vici area where she attended school graduating at Vici High School. Carolyn developed a love for horses as a small child that remained with her throughout her life.
She moved to Woodward after high school and worked at a café for a while. Carolyn then worked at the Fruit of the Loom factory for a number of years. She loved working with her horses, gardening, bird watching and just being outdoors. Carolyn had attended the Vici Nazarene Church as she was growing up.
She is survived by her son David Wayne Hartzell of Kingfisher; two grandchildren, Shelby Hartzell and Joshua Hartzell; one great grandchild, Kaylor Parker; three sisters, Billie File of Fargo, Jackie Jones of Vicii; Yvonne Crenshaw and husband Dave of Blanchard; one brother, Ron McCleery of Vici; one sister-in-law, JoAnn McCleeery; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lee McCleery ; two brothers-in-law, Wendell Jones and Kenneth File; two nephews, Greg File and Tom Jones.
