Woodward, Okla. — George Miller Harbison was born November 2, 1914, six years after Oklahoma statehood and passed away December 25, 2013. His parents were Mattie (Shumake) and George M. Harbison Sr. He was welcomed into this world by two adoring brothers, James Harbison and Robert Harbison. George completed his studies and graduated from Eldorado High School. After high school, he attended Cameron University where he met the love of his life, Ruth Brace. On April 21, 1938, George and Ruth were married in Lawton, OK. Their only child, James, was born while they lived in Seagraves, TX.
After living in various oilfield communities, the young couple along with their son settled in Vici, OK where they started Harbison Heating and Plumbing. The business flourished and became one of the longest continuously operated businesses in Vici until their retirement in 2003. He was a member of the Vici Masonic Lodge having achieved the status of being a member for 70 years, and he was also a member of the Vici Lions Club. He was a longtime member of the Vici First Christian Church. During his lifetime, George was known for his fishing and hunting prowess. He especially enjoyed hunting with his son and brothers along with other family and friends. He was known for his garden that always had a bountiful production of fresh tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and okra. George loved the community where he lived, and he was proud to call Vici his home.
George is survived by his grandson Jimmy Harbison and wife Kori, Oklahoma City, OK; granddaughter Lisa Harbison, Amarillo, TX; great granddaughter Keeley Harbison, Oklahoma City, OK; great grandson Keegan Harbison, Oklahoma City, OK; nephew Dennis Schandorf, Camargo, OK; brother-in-law Jerry Brace and wife Virginia, Woodward, OK; niece Madeleine Harbison, New York City, NY; niece Martha Harbison, Charlotte, NC along with a host of other nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
George was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, son, and daughter-in-law Anita Harbison. Funeral services were December 30, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Vici, OK with burial following in Sunnyside Cemetery. Services arranged by Shaw Funeral Home, Vici, OK. Condolences may be made to the family at shawfuneralhome.net In lieu of flowers and plants, memorial contributions may be to Sunnyside Cemetery or Vici First Christian Church in care of Shaw Funeral Home.
