Clyde Jay Gregory was born December 31st, 1939. He was the eighth child, the second of twin boys born to Glenn & Beulah Gregory on the Grandma Gregory place east of Vici Oklahoma. The family moved north of Harmon when Clyde was 4. Clyde started school at Arnett attending through 3rd grade, the family moved again to Vici where he started the 4th grade. He played Baseball, Basketball and ran track. He was a star Baseball player and received the American Legion Award for outstanding senior youth. Clyde was the FFA President and Annual editor his senior year. He also participated in the Jr. and Sr. 3 act play. Clyde lost his twin brother, Carl, their senior year. Clyde graduated with the class of 1959. He then moved after graduation in the summer of 1959 to Oklahoma City and worked for Yellow-Weld, welding cast until the spring of 1961; May 22, 1961 Clyde went to work for Panhandle Telephone living at Balko for two weeks before moving to Hardesty.

June 17, 1961 Clyde married his high school sweet heart, Inez Randall. To this union 5 sons were born Lynn Ray, Alva Jay, Terry Lee, Mickey Don and Greg Jon. They moved to Balko in August of 1962, residing there until 1996, when he retired and moved back to Vici.

Clyde started coaching Little League baseball in the summer of 1963, he spent many years driving the summer league baseball bus while coaching all the boys at one point or another. He also helped for a short time with the football chain gang before coach Kramer moved him to a safer, better location on the home side of the field to keep stats for the football games. Clyde enjoyed watching his boys play football, basketball, and run track. He always enjoyed camping with his family and hiking many times to the top of the Cuchara mountains with Inez and the boys, while on vacation. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with the boys, family and friends. They enjoyed two trips to Alaska. One by air with lifelong friends Louis and Betty Gardner. The other was across the US by motor home with dear family Garvin and Virgie Morris. They also traveled with Irene to North Dakota. Clyde and Inez often camped and traveled with Jack and Glendene Landers, Garvin and Virgie Morris, Leland and Deanna McLain. Clyde especially enjoyed the family reunions, where family and friends gathered to visit and share memories of days gone by. Clyde was able to attend for a short time this year’s Gregory reunion. Since Clyde retired he enjoyed his yearly fishing and camping trip with Robert to Canton Lake.

Clyde was known in the early days of telephones as the telephone lineman and installer repairman for the majority of the Oklahoma Panhandle. He attended several cable splicing schools among other telephone related classes. Clyde saw the telephone industry evolve from the switch board exchange to ITV and then to cellular service. He was the first telephone lineman for the Logan Exchange retiring after 35 years from PTCI on June 1, 1996. In February 21 and 22, 1971 a snow storm caused Clyde and Dale Burke to walk 6 miles to the Logan Central office to fix a $.15 fuse so phone service could be restored.

Clyde and Inez moved to Vici and enjoyed farming and ranching raising cattle and horses. Baptized into the Church of the Firstborn on a Sunday night January 30, 2000 by Bro. Donald Moss, not one of his sons was present that evening.

It brought great joy to Clyde watching his grandkids participate in Basketball, Baseball, softball, track and football. They had no greater supporter than Grandpa.

Clyde is preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Beulah, twin brother Carl, twin sisters Uneta and Uleta, sisters Emma Jean Freeman and Athol Gregory, brother in laws Roy Landers, Wallace Landers and Lee Nielsen, Father and mother in law Harvey and Irene Randall, brother in law’s Cecil Randall and Garvin Morris and Leland McLain.

Clyde leaves behind to cherish his memories, Inez of the home, Lynn and Penny, Alva and Sonja, Terry and Candace, Mickey and Crista and Greg and Misty, 20 grandkids, 4 great grands, brother Robert and wife Roberta Gregory, sister Glendene Landers, Mildred and Jackie Brown, Charlene Landers, brother in law Ray Freeman, Sister in law’s Virgie Morris, Deanna McLain, Connie Randall and brother in law Donnie and wife Elra Randall, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was loved by everyone that knew him. He was a wonderful brother and a friend to all.
