Rev. Roberta Ganzer, sister of Charline Hughen, was born on October 15, 1934 in Memphis, TN to Rev. John Gilbert Rushing and Arvie May Miller Rushing. She was the fourth of five daughters born into this family.

Former Vici resident, Rev. Roberta Ganzer, passed away on the morning of August 28th after a long struggle which was the result of a massive stroke she had suffered in November 2013. The stroke left her paralyzed on her left side. This condition was aggravated by confusion and the loss of short term memory. Once it became apparent that she was not likely to recover to the point where she would be able to live alone, she was relocated to Vici from Alma, NE, where she had been serving as a pastor prior to the stroke.

She was born Roberta Rushing on October 15, 1934 in Memphis, TN into a household which would eventually include five girls. She was the fourth child of the five. Her father was a Nazarene minister and her mother a stay at home mom. After many years of trying to find her place in life, she would eventually follow her father into the ministry. She completed her college education, with her Master’s Degree coming from Phillips University in Enid. She was actively pursuing her doctorate at the time of her stroke.

She was predeceased by her parents, Rev. John and Arvie Rushing, two husbands, Frank Bishop and Donald Ganzer, and two sisters, Sylvia Lou Crouch and Dora Moseley. She is survived by her children, Judith Theresa Bishop of San Diego, CA and John C. Bishop and his wife, Martha Lyn Bishop, of Elberton, GA one granddaughter, two grandsons, six great grandchildren, and two sisters, Charline Hughen with husband, Otis L. Hughen of Vici, and Montine Webb of Sylacauga, AL.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday September 6, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Church of the Nazarene, Vici, OK. Rev. Jon Gerling will be officiating. Condolences may be made to the family at shawfuneralhome.net Shaw Funeral Home of Vici
