ROY GILMOR KAUK

13 Jan 1922 - 16 Apr 2011

Roy Gilmor Kauk, son of Peter W. and Lydia Kauk was born on the family farm 8 miles southeast of Leedey, Oklahoma on January 13, 1922, the youngest of four brothers. He attended school at Eureka and Leedey. After courageously battling cancer for nearly four years, he departed this life on April 16, 2011 at the Grace Licing Center, Clinton, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 3 days.

On October 16, 1942 he was inducted into the United States Army and served 567 combat days in the European Theatre of World War II. He spent time in Africa, Sicily, Italy, Rhineland, Southern France and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged on November 22, 1945 at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. On April 21, 1946, Roy and Jessie Long were united in marriage at the Baptist Parsonage in Leedey, Oklahoma. They have resided at their home, 5 miles south of Rhea, Oklahoma, for the past 65 years. Their marriage was blessed with two sons. Michael Roy was born January 25, 1949 and Mitchell Kurt was born September 21, 1961. Roy spent his entire life farming and ranching.

Roy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Leedey, Oklahoma, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.

He was preceded in death by his parents, P.W. and Lydia Kauk, three brothers, Erwin, Edwin and Paul.

Left to cherish the memory of his life are his wife Jessie, two sons and their wives, Michael R. and Terry of Butler, and Mitchell K. and Sharla of Leedey; five grandsons, Michael L. of Claremore, Oklahoma, Shane of Elk City, Oklahoma, Kacy of Indonesia, Ross and Brad of Weatherford, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other family and a lifetime of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church of Leedey, Oklahoma with burial following in New Hermon Cemetery. Services arranged by Shaw Funeral Home, Leedey, Oklahoma. Condolences may be made to the family at shawfuneralhome.net.
