Betty Helen (Skelton) Kauk, lifetime Leedey resident, passed from this life on March 20, 2011 at the age of 84. Betty was one of six children born to Grover and Sadie (Morlan) Skelton. She was born on the home place at Leedey, Oklahoma on July 29, 1926.
Betty attended elementary school for a few years at Trail, Oklahoma before transferring to the Leedey School. She graduated from Leedey with the Class of 1945.
On April 17, 1949 Betty and Emmitt Kauk were united in marriage at Clinton, Oklahoma. They were blessed with the birth of their three children, Ronnie, Cynthia and Kim.
Betty was first and foremost a loving wife, mother, and homemaker who delighted in taking care of her family. She worked outside the home for a number of years as a bookkeeper for Kauk Ford and later worked in the cafeteria at the Leedey School.
Betty had many interest and liked to spend her free time sewing and reading a good book. Cooking for her family was never considered a chore but something she loved to do for them. She was a wonderful memaw and always did her best to attend her grandkids sports activities and other school events. She lovingly made each of her grandkids and great grandkids their own Christmas stocking.
Betty was a faithful member of the Leedey First Baptist Church where she was baptized in February, 1940. She was active in her Sunday school class as well as any other fellowship activities the church held.
Family members preceding her death are grandson, Aaron Boyd; brothers, Joe Skelton, Ross Skelton and Fred Skelton and sister, Dorothy Combs. Loved ones remaining to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, Emmitt Kauk, of the home; son, Ronnie Kauk and wife Kristi of Miami, Texas; daughters, Cynthia Kauk of Elk City, Oklahoma and Kim Boyd and husband Mike of Leedey, Oklahoma; grandchildren,Greg Kauk and wife Mandy, Brent Kauk and wife Marti, Danita Bufford and husband Travis and Ryan Boyd, great-grandchildren, Madison, Alison, Hanna, Riston, Emily, Sadie, and Kaison; special niece and friend, Lavena Skelton of Leedey, Oklahoma; brother Carl Skelton and wife Lydia of Leedey, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews and a lifetime of friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 23, 2011 in the First Baptist Church, Leedey, Oklahoma with burial following in New Hermon Cemetery. Services arranged by Shaw Funeral Home, Leedey, Oklahoma. Condolences may be made to the family at shawfuneralhome.net
