Wilford Lee Widney was born January 9, 1935 at Fay, Oklahoma to Lee Owen and Edith Eugenia Widney and passed away Sunday, January 18, 2004 at the age of 69.

Wilford helped with the farming while growing up in the Fay community. He graduated from Fay High School and attended Oklahoma A & M, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Husbandry in 1958. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard.

He was married to Darlene Louise Butler at Watonga, Oklahoma on May 9, 1959. To this union three children were born, Kelli, Kandy, and Kyle. In 1970, Gary and Leslie Blair, children of Dorine and Wesley Blair came to live with them.

Wilford farmed in the Eagle City community for 45 years. He started Flying W Livestock Equipment 22 years ago. He built the manufacturing business into a company recognized nationwide for its high quality and innovative design. Wilford changed the cattle industry with his patented Hydraulic Headbender.

He was a member of the Eagle City Christian Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, bible study leader, building committee chairman, Deacon for 17 years, and Elder for three years. He helped organize and co-sponsor the Eagle City Fire Department and Eagle City Sports Association, where he served as treasurer. He served as board of director for Cimarron Electric Cooperative for 15 years and the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives for years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Blaine County Farm Bureau for 27 years. He was president of the Progressive Farmers and served as an ASCS County Committeeman. He served on the board of Directors for the Fay Mt. Hope Cemetery. He was past master and district deputy for the Watonga Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Watonga Chamber of Commerce. He received the Bankers Award from the Elaine County Conservation Department. In 1982 he received the Chamber of Commerce District Farmer-Rancher of the Year and the Elaine County Farm Bureau Farmer-Rancher of the year and Blaine County awards. He was Boss of the year in 1995 for the Watonga Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife Darlene of the home, Watanga; one son, Kyle and wife Laura Widney of Watonga; one daughter, Kandy and husband Brent Wilkinson of Watonga; three grandchildren, Ashtyn, Kamry and Barkley; niece, Leslie and husband Bill Gwinn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nephew, Gary and wife Cathy of Rowlett, Texas and their three children Scott, Brandon, and Michon, and one sister, Gene and husband Kent Kirkpatrick of Fay, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Owen; two sisters, Dorine and one daughter, Kelli Kay Widney.

Funeral services for Wilford Widney were held Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 at the Eagle City Christian Church in Eagle City, OK. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Watonga with Rev. Lyman Sprunger and Rev. Doyle Warren officiating.

Arrangement by Wilkinson Mortuary of Watonga. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
