ENID — Ola Lea Shoopman McDonald was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Sentinel, Oklahoma, the fourth child of eight born to Edgar and Clara Effie Hampton Shoopman. She was reared and lived her youth in the western Oklahoma communities of Taloga and Southard.

During her late teens, she met the love of her life, Ervin McDonald, whom she married in 1944. They raised four boys together in Okeene. Her devoted husband preceded her in death in 1981. Mom was a superb baker. She worked many years as one of the cooks and official baker for Okeene Public Schools, making desserts and 1,000 raised rolls everyday for the students, faculty and staff.

She was a devout Christian, a devoted wife and a loving and nurturing mother. Having survived and endured the challenges as a stroke survivor for over four decades, she never let her health issues deter her from traveling or enjoying life's wonders at its fullest. Mom truly had a very unique, enthusiastic and optimistic take on life. We shall always remember her laughter, disarming smile, her spontaneous singing of a favorite hymn, her delightful charm and sweet congenial disposition.

Although she lived in Missoula, Mont., the past eight years and considered it home, she made it very clear to all she was first and foremost a proud Oklahoman.

Mother died at the age of 83 on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, from natural causes resulting from years of declining health.

Surviving are four sons and their families, Troy Irvin and wife Joan of Enid and children Troy Jr., Teresa Coleman and the late Tina, Roger Dale of Missoula, Cobby Allen and wife Kathy Barrett of Stafford, Va., and children Cobby Jr., Jason and Lauren, and William Edward of Oklahoma City and children Christopher, Shari and Derrick; two sisters, Ruth Miller of Monrovia, Calif., and Myrtle Whitsett of Oklahoma City; several great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and two sisters-in-law, Mollie Shoopman of Oklahoma City and Elaine Shoopman of Tucson, Ariz.

She is preceded in death by five siblings, Velma Thomas, J.D. Shoopman, Iva Fanning, Loyd Shoopman and Clara Mae Farnsworth.

Ola will be truly missed by the many who knew and loved her dearly.

Interment for Ola's ashes will be placed next to her husband, Ervin, in the Shoopman family plot in Mound Cemetery , Taloga. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. (Submitted by family)
