DELPHA DEANE BROWNLEE

March 21, 1921 - October 03, 2017

Delpha Deane (Day) Brownlee, daughter of Roy and Lillie (Poore) Day was born at the family home east of Hinton, OK. on March 21, 1921. She spent her childhood years and attended school at Hinton, OK. graduating with the class of 1939. From 1940 – 1944 she attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford, OK. and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.

On February 14, 1946 Delpha was united in marriage to Harold Davis Brownlee at McCloud, OK. Their first home was established in Hinton, OK. and in 1948 they moved to Oakwood, OK. where they were both employed by the Oakwood school system.

Two children, Wayne and Carol Frances, blessed their home and Delpha became a full time mother and homemaker through their childhood and school years. In 1957 the family moved to Taloga, OK. where Delpha was active in the community and helped with school activities that surrounded her husband and children. She considered it an honor to work with young children and returned to her teaching career after her children graduated from high school. She taught second grade for eleven and a half years, retiring mid-term in 1981. The Taloga Senior class of 1982 expressed their admiration for her in the school newsletter by writing their memories of being in her second grade class.

Delpha was a member of the Taloga First Baptist Church and attended the Okeene First Baptist Church after moving to Okeene, OK. in 1994. She passed from this life on October 3, 2017, at the age of 96.

Delpha enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and had a special interest in the collecting of depression glass.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lillie Day, her husband, Harold Brownlee and her sister, Dorothy Day Coffey Herbold.

Cherishing her memory and life lessons are her children, Wayne Brownlee and his wife Cathy of Okeene, OK. and Carol Trego and her husband Terry of Woodward, OK.. Five grandchildren and great grandchildren, K.C. Brownlee of Okeene, OK.; Kirk Patrick Brownlee of Piedmont, OK.; Kristy Redman, her husband Miles and their children, Paige, Kaylynn, Danielle and John of Jet, OK.; Karlee Brownlee of Oklahoma City, OK.; Katy Jones, her husband James and their daughter, Stella Grace of Woodward, OK. Other relatives and friends and numerous students whose lives she touched and helped shape.
