Opal Leonard Woodrum was born May 30, 1913 near Aberdeen, South Dakota while her parents were there caring for family. She grew up in Camargo, Oklahoma and graduated High School there. Opal accepted the Lord as her Savior at a very young age. Opal passed from this life on December 4, 2011 at the age of 98.

She married her first love, Johnie F. Leonard in February 1930. To this union was born a son, James Wayne and a daughter, Virginia Opal. Johnie and Opal lived in Trail and Camargo, Oklahoma and many other towns along the MK and T Railroad because this was Johnie’s employment.

In 1949 they moved to Sharon, Oklahoma where they made their home for 34 years. Opal owned and operated the Sharon Drug Store for 8 years, enjoying all the people of the Sharon Community. Due to Johnie’s poor health they moved to Vici in 1983 to be close to their daughter and son-in-law.

Opal was very active in the Methodist Church at Sharon and Vici, Oklahoma. She served on committees, on Board positions and various other areas of leadership. And in her latter years she attended Living Word Fellowship with her family.

Opal was known by her family as an outstanding cook and seamstress, a gracious and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

After Johnie’s death in 1985, Opal married Worth Woodrum in 1992 at the age of 80 years old. They continued to make their home in Vici and had 8 wonderful years together before Worth passed away on in October, 2000. With this marriage she gained one step-son, Oren Woodrum of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 2 step daughters Eva Lee Lloyd of Biloxi, Mississippi and Euleta Fiegel of Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Opal then moved in with her daughter Virginia and husband Jerry Brace in Woodward, Oklahoma. She made her home with them for nearly 10 years until her passing in December 2011.

She had a special relationship with her niece, Joan Turner who went places with her and stayed with her when necessary. She so very much loved going to the Senior Citizen Center for lunch. She loved the people there like her own family.

Those preceding Opal in passing were her father, Willis “Bill” Howell, mother Maggie Virginia, husband Johnie Leonard, husband Worth Woodrum, son James Wayne Leonard, sister Mary Jean Miskel and husband Ed, brothers and sisters–in-law, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She leaves to honor her memory, her daughter Virginia and Husband Jerry Brace of Woodward, Oklahoma, grandson Jerry Dale Brace and wife Karen of Toronto Canada, grandson Mark Brace and wife Sandra of Lawton, Oklahoma and granddaughter Shellee and husband Eric Cox of Woodward, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Brandie White and husband Rob of Lake St. Louis, Missouri; Dale Brace and wife Jennifer of O’Fallen, Missouri; Michael Brace of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Kaylee Brace of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Rachael Baeza and husband Luis of Woodward, Oklahoma; Joshua Woolley and wife Ann of Yukon, Oklahoma; Joel Cox of Woodward, Oklahoma; Trinity Stricker of Woodward, Oklahoma; Michael Young and Christa Gonzales of Dumas, Texas; seven great-great-grandchildren, Isaac White, Emily White, Alison White, Madison Woolley, Jessiah Baeza, Sophia Baeza, Mikoel Young and three more on the way; sisters-in-law, Pauline Leonard of Denver, Colorado and Billie Lea Leonard of Ava, Missouri, other family and many friends.

Opal was an awesome, amazing woman, steady, dependable, faithful, and a giver of love and kindness and always willing to help others. At 98 ˝ years old she was still going strong, clinging to life and living it to her fullest potential. She leaves a legacy of love and a great example of living her Christian Faith to her family and she will be dearly missed by all.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, December 7 at the Living Word Fellowship Church, Woodward, Oklahoma with burial following at Camargo Cemetery, Camargo, Oklahoma. Services arranged by Shaw Funeral Home, Vici, Oklahoma.

Condolences may be made to the family and video tribute viewed at shawfuneralhome.net.
