Emma Geraldine “Gerry” Hunt Williamson of Mutual passed away on Friday June 20th at Woodward Regional Hospital at age of 87 and 3 days. Services will be Monday, June 23rd at 2:00 pm at the First Christian Church in Camargo.
Gerry Williamson was born in Kaw City, Oklahoma on June 17, 1927 to Herman and Mildred Hunt. She was the oldest of 10 children. At a small age they moved to Camargo where Gerry attended the Camargo Schools graduating Valedictorian in 1945. She was a wonderful basketball player and some say one of the best to come out of Camargo.
She attended Phillips University in Enid for a year but then eloped and married Linn Williamson in Wellington, Kansas in May of 1946. They were married for 56 years before his passing in 2003. To this union two children were born: Diana Lynn in 1949 and Danny G. in 1950.
In 1956 Linn began working for Phillips Petroleum and they moved to Fritch, Texas. Gerry worked in the Post Office for four years.
In 1962 they moved to Lovington, New Mexico where they remained for the next 35 years.
In 1963 she decided to return to college and go into education. She attended college of the Southwest which started out in one building in Hobbs, New Mexico. Gerry attended the college as it grew to a four year accredited college. She earned her BA in elementary education and started teaching in Lovington in 1966. She earned her Master’s degree in 1969 from Texas Tech.
Gerry was an avid sports fan and Linn, Diana, and she enjoyed following Danny play football and basketball during his school years. At one time she and Linn were in a bowling League, canasta club, and she took tennis lessons at age 45.
In the last few years she had become an avid Thunder fan. She never missed a game on TV and talked them through each play. The Thunder has lost one of their best fans.
She had a long and successful teaching career and developed many life-long friends with her teaching family. She belonged to the Delta Kappa ESA Teaching Sorority and held all offices. She retired about 1990. Gerry had a beautiful alto voice and loved to sing with her brothers and sisters. She even taught herself to play the guitar so she could play along with her brothers.
About 1997 Linn and Gerry moved back to the farm in Oklahoma, where Linn was raised. They enjoyed living on the farm and being closer to their family.
Her family was the most important thing in her life. She loved to have her family around her and, oh how she loved each and every one so much. Without the love and support of her brother Jim and his wife Gayla, she and Diana could not have made it.
Gerry had a long and wonderful life and was wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Her family was so good to her and her one “special light” was her great-grandson, Jaxon. She was so happy to be so close to him and help form his little life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Linn, her brother Marvin Hunt, and sister Mary Ann Berry. Left to miss her so much is her daughter Diana Irving and husband Clyde; son Dan Williamson and wife Donna of Lovington, New Mexico; grand-daughter Emmy Irving and son Jaxon of Woodward; grandson Allen Williamson and wife Mendee; three precious kids Jessica, Amber and Aaron of Runaway Bay, Texas; grandson Russ Williamson of Dallas, Texas; brothers Gail Hunt and wife Cladene of Shattuck; sister Margie McDonald and husband Lyman of Laramie, Wyoming; brother Bill Hunt and wife Janice of Cache, Oklahoma; sister Kay Miskel and husband Emery of Oklahoma City; sister Madelyn Ethridge of Edmond, Oklahoma; brother Jim Hunt and wife Gayla of Woodward; brother Jerry Hunt and wife Joni of Edmond, Oklahoma; many wonderful nieces, nephews, special cousin, Leila Peoples and husband Don, many other cousins, loved ones and friends.
