Gracie Young Thomsen, One of twelve children born to James and Iva Phillips Young, during the poverty-stricken depression era, began life on October 11, 1938 in Gore, OK. Gracie attended Pigeon and Box Grade Schools, Vian High School and received her college degree from Bacome College in Muskogee, OK in 1980.
She married Clyde Julius Renfro in 1955. This union was blessed with three boys, David, Donald and Kerry. After Clyde passed away, Gracie worked as a waitress putting herself through nursing school and raising her boys. After completing nursing school, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital and in Elk City. She also worked many years at the Seiling Hospital and the Leedey Nursing Home as the Director of Nursing. In 1984 in Camargo, OK she married Charles Thomsen they made their home west of Camargo. Gracie was an avid OU fan and everyone knew not to call or bother her during game time. She also had become an Oklahoma City, Thunder fan. Spending time with family and friends was a very important part of her life.
Relatives preceding Gracie in death were, parents James and Iva Young, husbands, Clyde Julius Renfro and Charles Thomsen, son, Donald Renfro, brothers, George, Lester, James Jr., Douglas and Clarence Young, sisters, Ena Smith, Margaret Sequichie and Ruby Ballard.
She is survived by sons, David Renfro of Checotah, OK and Kerry Renfro of Camargo, OK; sister, Maxine Harris of Vian, OK; brothers, Nick Young of Park Hill, OK and Charles Young of Tulsa, OK; one grandchild, Katrina Rogers of Checotah, OK; two great-grandchildren, Janie & Jeannie Arnett of Checotah, OK; several nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
