Barbara Lee Tharp, 94 year old resident of Vici, OK, passed from this life December 19, 2015. She was born west of Ft. Supply, OK, to John Loren and Rachel Lizzie (Brant) Hurst on March 21, 1921.

For the most part, Barbara Lee's early years were spent in the Ft. Supply area. For a short time her family moved to Mesa, AZ. Later she lived with a sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Wesley Smith, in Camargo, OK, graduating from Camargo High School.

On March 21, 1942, Barbara married Kenneth Avery Tharp of Camargo and they made their home in the Camargo area. This being during World War II, Kenneth was soon called to serve his country, proudly serving from October 1942 until October 1945. During this time, Barbara Lee lived in various places including California while Kenneth was training there.

After Kenneth returned, they moved to the Bloomfield community, east of Camargo, where they farmed. One spring day in the 1950's, a tornado struck the Bloomfield corner. They were safely in the cellar, but their house was completely destroyed. They persevered and rebuilt. Later, they moved to Shattuck, OK, where Kenneth was the parts man for an implement dealership. By this time, Barbara Lee had completed beautician school and opened her own beauty shop. The couple had begun collecting and selling antiques and collectibles. Kenneth had the opportunity to be the parts man in Clinton, OK, so they moved there. They opened an antique shop in Clinton and by now, Barbara Lee was very knowledgeable about antiques and collectibles. She became acquainted with antique dealers far and wide and she was a craftsman on restoring and refinishing furniture.

After Kenneth's death in 1989, Barbara Lee continued to be active in the store, renovating furniture and attending sales. Several years later, she moved to Vici and opened an antique store which she ran until her health began to fail.

The family would like to give a heartfelt “thank you” to the Vici Nursing Home and Faith Hospice for all the wonderful support and care they gave to our sweet Barbara Lee.

Barbara Lee was preceded in death by her parents John and Rachel Hurst, two brothers Cash and J.L. Jr., four sisters Hazel, Violet, Glendena, and Vernell.

Surviving her is one sister, Glessnell of Weatherford, OK, formally of Vici, OK, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
