Harley Dale Arnold, always known as Dale, was the son of Eugene Victor and Laura Faye Brooks Arnold. He was born July 24, 1941 at Webb, OK. and completed his earthly journey March 9, 2021 at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 16 days at his home in Woodward, OK. Dale grew up on the family farm in the Webb community. He attended school at Webb, OK. through the eighth grade and transferred to Camargo, OK. where he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. On the baseball field, he always teamed up with his older brother Jerry who pitched and Dale was the catcher. Jerry was quite the pitcher and it probably forced Dale to become a pretty good catcher! He was a member of the graduating class of 1959.
On July 18, 1962 at the United Methodist Church in Camargo, OK., Dale was united in marriage to Barbara Jane Day. Early in their marriage, Dale and Barbara travelled the state of Oklahoma while Dale worked with Elliot Brothers Construction doing highway construction. In 1968 they moved to Waynoka, OK. and Dale began a career with the Santa Fe Railroad. He never missed a day of work in his 36 years of employment. Over the years the family lived in Amarillo, Hereford and Lubbock, TX. before returning to reside in Woodward, OK. where he retired as a signal maintainer. He was a member of the Railroader Union which supported their workers and maintained railroad safety practices. He gained numerous safety awards and commendations for his 36 years of diligent service. His greatest accomplishment was developing great friendships with the coworkers on the railroad. Some of the new guys he helped along the way became family.
Dale and Barbara were blessed with four children, Jeffrey Dale, Donna Loraine, Jennifer Janell and Laura Renee. Dale was very involved in family activities. He helped his children develop a love for sports which they all played in some form. He coached his kids at home, on the field and on the court. He spent many hours attending his children’s sporting events and practices and later loved to watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren with their activities. He was instrumental in making time for family vacations every year. Many of those were spent in the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico during the summer months to cool off. Motels were not an option, but camping was and it provided some unique opportunities for the family to form many good memories. He enjoyed fishing and quail hunting with his family. He cherished going to family reunions, on both sides of the family. The great times and memories made with the aunts, uncles and cousins will never be forgotten. An abundance of good food and fun games kept the reunions alive.
Dale enjoyed playing church basketball as an adult and was quite the shooter! He learned to play golf while living in Texas and enjoyed many rounds over the years. Later in life, he spent many hours with the love of his life, Barbara, on Canton Lake fishing in their boat or hanging out at their cabin. Many enjoyable hours have been spent playing cards and visiting with their neighbors in the lake neighborhood.
As a child growing up in Webb, OK., Dale attended the Webb Baptist church and was baptized as a youngster. He rededicated his life while in Lubbock, TX. and was active in teaching and coaching. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and sibling and a devoted family man. He was a friend and a mentor to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Victor and Laura Faye Arnold, a daughter, Donna Loraine Arnold; a brother, Jerry Eugene Arnold and sister in law Willa Dean “Tootsie” Arnold and a brother in law, Odie Merrifield.
