Mae Ruth Holley Abbott was born February 4, 1940 to John and Mattie Holley. She passed away on January 5, 2016 in Woodward, Oklahoma at the age of 75 (just one month short of her 76th birthday).

She attended school in Camargo, Oklahoma, graduating in 1957. After graduation she moved to Oklahoma City and attended Business School. She started her career with Woodmansee Abbott & Music Company in downtown Oklahoma City. She worked there for more than 40 years until the business was sold. She later took a job with Oklahoma City Kiwanis.

Mae Ruth was baptized at an early age and attended Webb Free Will Baptist Church until she graduated high school and moved to Oklahoma City where she remained a Baptist. When she moved back to Camargo, she attended First Christian Church.

Mae Ruth was involved in numerous community organizations. The one she most loved was her Music Club. She held many offices for this organization from Secretary, Treasurer and President. She had many opportunities to travel while serving as President and loved every minute of it. She had the opportunity to visit all of the states except two.

Mae Ruth became an instant Mom to 2 year old Bill Abbott and raised him as her own. He was her pride and joy and she was so proud of him. She loved him with all of her heart.

She was simply known as “Aunt Ruth” to over 100 nieces and nephews (some of them greats). She loved spoiling them rotten and taking them to Toy’s R Us and letting them pick out whatever they wanted. She would even buy things for them even when their parents explained they didn’t need something. She loved all of them dearly.

Mae Ruth will always be remembered as an avid OU fan. She had excellent season’s tickets (about 20 rows up around the 30 yard line) and loved taking her family to the football games. She loved animals – cats, dogs, ducks and peacocks. She loved gathering the peacock feathers and would make arrangements from them. She always enjoyed sharing her peacock feathers with nieces and nephews. In her later years she had a dog named Beau and her and Beau were the very best of friends as she took him with her wherever she went.

She loved to “give” to others. She was a true example of “it is better to give than receive” as she was very generous to all of her family, her son Bill, her parents, brothers and sisters and all of her nieces and nephews. She gave from her heart and not out of need as she simply just loved to buy gifts for people for no special occasion.

One of her favorite vacations was the annual lake trip with her brothers and sisters, other family members & friends to Fort Gibson Lake. She loved this trip and often said “I wish we could go more than once a year”.

Mae Ruth was a very classy, spunky, generous, “red headed” lady that loved to shop, travel and drink “Diet Coke.

In 2004 she retired and moved to Camargo, Oklahoma where she resided until 2008 when she needed additional care and moved to Grace Living Center.

Mae Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mattie Holley, her adopted parents, William and Jane Abbott, 4 brothers, John Charles, Billy Joe, Eldo and Gordon and one sister Gay Nell Nealy and brother-in-law’s David Nealy and Roy Robinson.

She is survived by her son Bill Abbott and wife Barbara, two grandsons, Erik and Ryan from Florida; by three brothers, Ray Holley and wife Loreta of Bethel Acres, L.R. Holley and wife Wanda of Shattuck and Harold Holley and Lois of Camargo. Also by two sisters, Meredith Ramey and husband Larry of Camargo and Ginger Boren and husband Don of Woodward; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Holley of Woodward and Beverly Holley of Oklahoma City; numerous nieces and nephews, other family and a host of friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Grace Living Center and Woodward Hospice for taking such good care of her. A special thank you to the Hospice Chaplin, Peggy Kitchens for her regular visits, music and prayers.
