WILLA DEAN WHETSTONE, daughter of Earl and Lula (Reed) Custer, was born August 6, 1924 southwest of Fairview, Oklahoma in Major County. She departed this life early Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Woodward Regional Hospital at the age of 88 years.

She was raised on the family farm southwest of Fairview and attended Sternberg, Liberty and Longdale Schools. She was united in marriage to Gilbert William Whetstone May 30, 1941 at Woodward, OK. They made their home on the family farm southeast of Chester where they raised nine sons. Willa Dean played a major role in helping raise several grandchildren. She worked as a homemaker for her family, as well as, working as a cook at the 7-H Steakhouse, Chester Cafe, Seiling-Chester Senior Citizens Center and the Fairview Lions Club. Willa Dean was well known for her cooking and baking abilities. She enjoyed feeding her large family and anyone else who came to her home. If anyone left Willa Dean's home hungry, it was your own fault because she would have tried to feed you. She also enjoyed gardening and canning but most of all, she loved her family and liked being surrounded by them. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Survivors include six sons: Arlyn (Carol) of Seiling, Larry (Debbie) of Taloga, Randy (Christine) of Chester, Danney (Donna) of Hooker, Merl and Kenny both of Chester, Donald (Jamie) of Chester; thirty one grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Coleen Thompson (Drake) of Fairview and Norma Lee Anderson of Austin, TX, brother-in-law, Bill Inman of Fairview besides several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gilbert, three sons, Gary, Donnie and George; three brothers, Rex. George and Reed Custer, two sisters, Maxine Thyes and Fern Inman, one granddaughter, Marissa Whetstone and one great grandson, Braxton Riggs.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Elm Grove Community Church with Pastor Orville White, officiating. Interment will follow in the Brumfield Cemetery at Seiling.
