Dean Merrill Ward along with his twin brother, Gene, was born February 4, 1941 on a farm southeast of Chester, Oklahoma to Charles Merrill (Bill) Ward and Reva Louise Floyd. Dean attended school in Fonda and Pawhuska graduating from Seiling High School in 1959. He married Betty Ann Campbell on July 18, 1961 at Midway Assembly of God Church. After attending Draughn's Electronics School in Oklahoma City, he enlisted in the Army working in the field of Avionics Repair. This lead to Dean and Betty moving six times and living in five states during the first five years of marriage.
After Dean's military service, he was hired by Schlumberger Well Service as an Electronic Technician. Dean and Betty settled in Enid, Oklahoma where their two daughters were born. In 1969 they moved to Woodward where they have resided for 45 years. Retiring from Schlumberger in 1991, he started a handyman service that allowed him to use his talents helping many people in Woodward.
Dean was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Woodward where he served as a deacon for over 20 years. Few days went by that he did not go to the church for some chore such as changing light bulbs, doing lawn work or making other minor repairs. Most recently Dean's favorite area of ministry included cooking meals for the children every Wednesday night.
As an avid hunter and fisherman, Dean loved the outdoors. His garden was his pride and joy which allowed him to share his harvest by the bucketfuls with friends and family. Camping and traveling were something he and Betty both enjoyed.
Dean is survived by his wife Betty of the home, two daughters, Angela Mills of El Reno, Dayna Woods and her husband Michael of Minot, North Dakota. He was blessed with six grandchildren: Jayla Mills, Jace Mills, Grayce Woods, Kade Woods, Asher Woods and Crew Woods. They welcomed Baylee Webster into their family in 2005. He is also survived by one twin brother, Gene Ward and his wife Connie of Seiling and one sister, Charlene Seidel and her husband Ray of Chicago along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Dean was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Ward, one sister, Darlene Seifried, and his son-in-law, Jeff Mills.
