Chester Lavon Nelson, 70, of Seiling, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at his home. He was born on July 10, 1948 in Poplarville, Mississippi to Paul and Thelma (Page) Nelson. He was raised and educated in Poplarville until 1968 when he enlisted in the United States Army. While serving he met Norma Fisher. The couple were married on Sept. 17, 1970 in Thomas, OK. The couple lived in Lampasas, TX until Chester was honorably discharged in 1971. They then made their home in Seiling where Chester made a living as a truck driver and Norma owned the Main Street Diner until her passing in 1999. In his spare time, Chester enjoyed fishing, playing cards, raising his chickens, and camping. Chester was a member of the Richmond Country Church. Chester was married again in 2001 to Pat Riggs and the couple made their home in Hitchcock until her passing when he returned to Seiling.
In addition to his parents, Paul Nelson and Thelma Gates, Chester was preceded in death by his wife Norma Nelson and wife Pat Nelson.
Surviving are his children Michael Nelson and wife Tina of Chester, OK and Michelle Pembrook and husband Billy of Longdale, OK; stepchildren Marsha Elliott and husband Joe of Seiling, J.R. Clark and wife Michelle of Seiling, and Kim Elliott of Seiling; sister Pelie Parker and husband Shorty of Lucedale, MS; brothers Buck Nelson and wife Cathy of Lyman, MS, and Shannon Nelson and wife Deidre of Poplarville, MS; 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Elm Grove Community Church of Chester. Burial will follow at Brumfield Cemetery.
