SEILING — Earnest Eugene Louthan, son of Roy and Emma (Bensch) Louthan, was born May 24, 1927, southeast of Chester . He departed this life on Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Seiling Municipal Hospital at the age of 83 years.
He was raised on the family farm near Chester and attended Lakeside School through the eighth grade. He graduated from Seiling High School with the class of 1945.
He entered the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged and returned to Oklahoma. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Sander, March 15, 1947, at Seiling. They made their home southwest of Seiling where they raised their four children. He worked as a farmer and rancher and for 27 years, he worked at the Seiling Lumber Company. They moved into Seiling from their farm in 2005. Earnest was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on several boards and was active in the Methodist Men's Group. He also served on the Rural Fire Department Board.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Ellen Louthan; one son: Ralph Louthan and wife Deena of Seiling; three daughters: Barbara Holsapple and husband Frank of Oakwood, Cathryn Taylor and husband Larry of Barling, AR and Deborah Davis of Lubbock, TX; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother: Norman Louthan and wife Jackie of Seiling; four sisters: Myrtle Cronkhite of Seiling, Wilma Eliot and husband Wayne of Haysville, KS, Betty Brady and husband Bob of Edmond and Carol Gilchrist of Canton. He also is survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law: Keith Davis, grandson: Scott Evan Taylor, sister: Agnes Holub and brother: Elden Louthan.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 2, 2010, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Rick Forthman officiating. Interment will follow in Brumfield Cemetery . Memorials can be made to Area Medical Foundation, First United Methodist Church or Seiling- Chester Center for Senior Citizens with Redinger Funeral Home, PO Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663, serving as custodian of the funds.
