The funeral for Mary Ida Little Coyote, 81, of Seiling, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Seiling Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Clifford Koehn will officiate. Burial will be in Brumfield Cemetery, Seiling. A traditional wake service will be 7 p.m. today at Seiling-Fonda Community Center. Arrangements are by Redinger Funeral Home, Seiling.
She was born May 18, 1925, in Fonda to Dana and May DeBrae Black and died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at her home in Seiling.
She went to elementary school at Pumpkin Ridge school and attended high school at Chillocco Indian School. She married Hailman Little Coyote at Fonda in 1949 in a traditional Cheyenne ceremony. They made their home in Seiling, except for a brief time when they lived in Medicine Lodge, Kan.
She was a homemaker, worked at Shamrock Cafe and as a nurse aide at Seiling Nursing Center. She was a member of Seiling Indian Mennonite Church, Native American Church and Lightning Dancers Clan. Surviving are two daughters, Rachel Little Coyote of Ponca City and Karen Little Coyote of Seiling; one son, Cecil Dawes of Lawrence, Kan.; one adopted daughter, Bobbie Hamilton; three sisters, Norma Jean Buffalomeat, Norma Joan Smith and Rita Black, all of Seiling; one brother, Larry Black of Watonga; and one adopted brother, Maurice Lime of Canton; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, one adopted son, one brother, two sisters, two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
