DIXIE LEE (ALLISON) CHEN

August 28, 1937 - April 20, 2018

Dixie Lee (Allison) Chen, 80 of Seiling, Oklahoma, passed from this life on April 20, 2018. She was born on August 28, 1937 to Claude and Alma (Sander) Allison in Maysville, OK. The family lived in Maysville until Dixie was in the first grade before moving to Oklahoma City, where Dixie continued school and graduated from high school. Growing up, Dixie was surrounded by her father’s prize roses, intricate porcelain pieces crafted by her parents and always a Boston terrier. Her love for art and fashion, as well as following in the paths of several cousins, took her to Oklahoma State University, where she obtained a degree in fashion design. After graduation, she moved to Houston, TX, where she worked as a buyer for Foley’s department store. After a few years, she decided to move to Chicago, IL and pursue a master’s degree in social work, and continue work in the area. While in Chicago, she met and married Tony Chen. Dixie and Tony took many adventurous trips to China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Canada. They later moved to Plano, TX, where she worked for Texas Instruments.

After retirement, Dixie moved to Seiling, OK to help her mother. Dixie was an active member of the First Christian Church in Seiling where she enjoyed singing in the choir and all church functions. She was always busy in local activities and events, serving on the boards of both the Senior Citizens Center and Seiling Nursing Home. She also worked at the Seiling Library and Vicki’s Bookkeeping Service. She loved having flowers in her yard and was extremely proud of the beautiful rose garden she planted at the Nursing Home for her mother. Dixie had a warm cheerful personality and always enjoyed spending time with friends over morning coffee at the cafe, Sander family get-togethers and trips to Mutual to visit her aunt and uncle. In later years, Dixie resided at the Seiling Nursing Home, where she enjoyed the people and time spent embroidering, reading romance novels, crafts, bingo, all Thunder games and visits from relatives and friends.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents Claude and Alma. She is survived by one aunt, Mary Beth Christensen and husband Bob, Mutual, OK, as well as numerous cousins and the many friends she made throughout her lifetime.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday Apr. 24, 2018 at the First Christian Church of Seiling with Pastor Dennis Adair presiding. Burial will follow a Brumfield Cemetery all under the direction of Redinger Funeral Home.

Memorial Donations in Dixie's honor may be made to the Seiling Nursing Home or Seiling Fire Department.
