Marvell (Hogner) Rogers was born on June 2, 1937, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to John and Mamie (Livingston) Hogner. She departed this life on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the age of 72 years and 21 days.
Marvell was raised in Spavinaw, Oklahoma, and graduated from Jay High School. On July 9, 1956, in Spavinaw, Oklahoma, Marvell and James D. “Tincy” Rogers were united in marriage. They have lived in Locust Grove area since 1964, moving here from Tulsa. Marvell had worked in the Locust Grove School system for over 22 years. She had worked as an aide in the office, lunchroom, and classroom.
Marvell was a member of the Spavinaw Methodist Church. She loved all sports and was an avid supporter of little league baseball. Marvell enjoyed bowling, square dancing, and fishing. She also worked canning foods. Marvell enjoyed flowers, especially her favorite, tulips. Known as the “Community Grandma”, she will be missed by all.
She is survived by: her husband: Tincy Rogers of the home; 3 children: Eddie Rogers and wife Dessie of Rose, Oklahoma, Freddie Rogers and wife Shelly of Catoosa, Oklahoma, and Scotty Rogers and wife Penny of Rose, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 sister: Marjorie Soerries and husband Matt of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Marvell was preceded in death by: her parents and 1 brother: James Tony Hogner.
Graveside services were held 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 26, 2009, at the Welch Prairie Cemetery North of Rose, Oklahoma. Reverend Shawn Bates officiated. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
