Jonnie Pauline (Jarvis) Hensley, 90-year-old Afton resident, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the Grand Wood Nursing Center in Grove. She was born on November 23, 1933, in Bernice to Bailey Duard Jarvis and Marie Lillian (Wallen) Jarvis. Jonnie was a 1951 graduate of Cleora High School. She married John William Hensley on June 15, 1951, in Miami, Oklahoma. She was a home maker, and helped in the family fertilizer business for many years, later Jonnie worked at Craig County Farm Bureau for many years, before retiring from there. She was a member of the Cleora Community Church. Jonnie was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed gardening, her group investment club, traveling, going on road trips, and bus tours. Most of all she loved her family and being with them.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Hensley, Sr., her parents, siblings Norman Clyde Jarvis in 2010, Lillian Faye Williams-Towell in 2007, Norma Jean Ballenger in 2011, and Sandra Powell in 2022, and Bill Jarvis in 2023.
The family includes her children, Debbie Guthrie of Big Cabin, Darrell Hensley of Vinita, John W. “Jay” Hensley and wife Joyce of Afton, Rick Hensley and wife Donna of Vinita, Tammi Longacre and husband Phil of Vinita, one sister, Charolette McSpadden of Vinita, sister in law, Anita Jarvis of Big Cabin, twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Burckhalter Highsmith Chapel in Vinita.
The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cleora Community Church, with her nephew Ken McSpadden officiating. Interment will follow at the Sixkiller Cemetery near Afton. Online condolences may be made at www.highsmithfh.com or on the funeral home Facebook page.
