Larry Dean Backward 59 of Kenwood, Oklahoma was born on Feb. 24, 1951 in Claremore, Oklahoma. He passed away on December 5, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The son of Charles & Louise Elsie (Smoke) Backward, he grew up and attended school at Wyckliffe & Salina, Oklahoma.
He was married to Mary Arneecher on Feb. 26, 1972. She preceded him in death in 1983.
He worked at Tyson in Jay for several years. He was a member of Euwasha Baptist Church in Kenwood and enjoyed fishing and being with his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 9, 2010, in the Euwasha Baptist Church in Kenwood, burial will follow in Euwasha Cemetery with Reverend Richard “Guy’ Soldier officiating.
Casket Bearers will be Allen Tennison, Keith Russell, Leonard Jumper, Michael Lemming, Pete Smoke and Mark Proctor. Honorary Casket Bearer is Joe Russell.
Services are under the direction of the Shipman's Funeral & Cremation Service of Pryor.
Larry will lay in state at the home of his aunt, Roberta Smoke and a wake service will be held there at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening.

He is survived by his mother; Louise of the home, 3-sons; Chris Backward & wife Barbara of Spavinaw, OK, Leslie Backward & wife Tara Lynn of Kansas, OK, Dee Backward of Jay, OK; 2-Daughters, Lindsey Backward of the home, Cara Stick of Spavinaw, OK; 14-Grandchildren; 1-Sister, Rita Bell Rudd of Adair, OK; 2-Aunts, Ella Mae Jumper of Spavinaw, Roberta Smoke of Kenwood; 2-Uncles, Louie Smoke & Charles Smoke both of Kenwood, OK. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary & his father, Charles.
