October 31, 1929 ~ June 26, 2010

Funeral services for L.D. Wood, 80, of Twin Oaks, will be held on Wednesday, June 30 at 10:00 AM at Lowery Free Will Baptist Church in Oaks. Reverend Francis Berka will officiate with burial following at Elm Cemetery in Leach. Viewing will be Tuesday from 9am-8pm at Key Funeral Home in Locust Grove. Services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home in Locust Grove.

Mr. Wood passed away Saturday in Muskogee. L.D. was born on October 31, 1929 in Boatman to Thomas Richard and Mary Mae (Taylor) Wood. He was the youngest of nine children and grew up and attended school in Kansas and Jay.

L.D. joined the U.S. Army in 1950 and was stationed in Germany. He also served in Korea for a little over 10 months and was then honorably discharged. While in the military he was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and the Korean Service Medal.

He returned to Oklahoma and made roots in Kenwood where he was a cattle rancher.

He and Helen Luree Martin were married on March 15, 1955 in Jay and they had three children.

In 1960, he became a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Local Union 627, International Union of Operating Engineers for 50 years. He retired in 1993. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He attended the Lowery Free Will Baptist Church in Oaks for several years.

Survivors include: His wife of 55 years: Helen of the home 1 Daughter- Vickie Morrison of Tulsa 2 sons- Thomas Richard Wood and wife Rhonda of Twin Oaks Leslie Douglas Wood and wife Mary of Navarre, Florida 7 Grandchildren- Richard, Kimberly, Kyle, Kevin, Destiny, Keisha, and Bryan 7 Great Grandchildren 1 Brother-J.U. Wood and wife Hazel of Grove

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 Brothers and 3 sisters.
